The Maltezu or Mal-Shi is a cross between the Maltese and Shih Tzu. The physical and behaviorial characterics that are prevalant in Maltese and Shih Tzus may also be passed onto the offspring.

Maltese Characteristics:

The perfect companion dog, these little wonders are friendly, outgoing, affectionate and easily learn to do tricks. They do well in homes with other animals present. They love to play and run lead-free outside in a fenced yard, but you must be aware of outside conditions as they may get either too warm or too cold, must be kept from damp climates, and could sunburn along their hair lines. Prevent unwelcome behaviors such as picky eating, jealousy, and barking by not overprotecting it and treating it as a dog, not a human. Keep life constant and predictable, with you as the "pack leader" and boss, and both of you shall lead happy, long lives together.

Shih Tzu Characteristics:

The Shih Tzu (correctly pronounced sheed-zoo) is a popular dog because of it's plucky and playful personality as well as for it's attractive and beautiful features. An excellent apartment dog, the Shih Tzu doesn't need to have an outdoor space for exercise, however, as with all dogs, does need a daily walk.The Shih Tzu loves to be surrounded by people and can live with other pets with little problem. Because of their small stature and delicate looks, it can be easy to spoil them; however, a Shih tzu, like other toy dogs, do well with consistant training and rules, as well as having an owner who is stronger willed than she is. Brush the silky coat daily. As the Shih Tzu sheds little dander, they are good for most allergy sufferers.
