The Shih Poo is a mixed breed dog. Like the Maltipoo (Maltese and Poodle) and Maltezu (Maltese and Shih Tzu), at Bear Creek Maltipoo each of the Shih Poo’s parents are purebred dogs. The mom can either be a Shih Tzu and the dad a Poodle or vice versa. Shih Poos come in all colors! We raise only first generation, F1, Shih Poos. We use one of two Toy Poodle studs that we have now. The mom will be Shih Tzu. Our Toy Poodle, Pedee weighs 7.5 lbs and is sable parti. Our other Toy Poodle (soon to be) stud is Rudee and he should mature to 4.5 lbs. He is red/apricot. Again, we usually know about what a puppy might grow to be as an adult by knowing their parent’s weight. We can guess and be close but cannot guarantee their adult weight.

You can go to the Shih Tzu page to read about the temperament of the Shih Tzu. The Toy Poodle is extremely intelligent and sensitive. They are said to be one of the most trainable breeds. Sometimes said to be “hyper,” they just like to be with people and are perky and lively. They are pleasant and happy, and must be socialized as a puppy. The poodle makes a good watch dog for its size. They make good apartment dogs and will do all right without a yard – but they LOVE to go outside and play! You can get any combination of any of the characteristics of these two dog breeds. Poodles shed little to no hair and are good for most allergy sufferers.
